Werner Düttmann · 1960 · Berlin

Sit in the café and look at how the exhibition halls step down to the park.

Werner Düttmann designed the Academy of Arts in the Hansaviertel, which opened in 1960. It was not part of the Interbau 1957 exhibition around it.

Brick, copper and concrete give it a heavier feel than its Interbau neighbours, which leans toward brutalism. Düttmann later built St. Agnes in Kreuzberg.
