Cross the bridge to the Messe and look back at the aluminium hull.
Ralf Schüler and Ursulina Schüler-Witte built the International Congress Centrum between 1973 and 1979. It measures 320 metres long, 80 wide and 40 high, with about 80 halls for 20 to 5,000 people.
Berlin listed it in 2019 as one of the most important German buildings of the postwar decades. Its metal skin places it closer to high-tech than brutalism, though guides often group it with Berlin's concrete icons.
