Steglitzer Kreisel

Sigrid Kressmann-Zschach · 1980 · Berlin

Stand at Rathaus Steglitz and look up the 30 storeys of the tower.

Sigrid Kressmann-Zschach designed the Kreisel, which began construction in 1968. Work stopped in 1974, and after an auction in 1977 the tower was completed in 1980. At 120 metres and 30 storeys it is one of Berlin's tallest buildings.

The district office used it until 2007. A conversion into 330 flats began in 2015 and has stalled. It is a concrete-and-glass tower of the brutalist era, with no raw concrete facade.
